The Graduate

So yesterday I Graduated University with ...
..First Class Honours in Illustration & Design!
It was such a nice day, despite some initial stress,
(What do I wear, What is my hair doing?? Will I fall over???..all of these things)

I was so pleased to get a first!

The reason I'm standing in front of a picture with footballer's on
is because my Graduation ceremony was held a a football
stadium for some reason.

That gown was not comfortable at all!
The hat kept falling off, as did the neck thing
and the black gown was far to big and hot!

The strapping young fellow with me is my Boyfriend, Sam.

The Sorceress

The Sorceress! I created this as a little card to put out
for my degree show, which was last friday!
It was a good night, much free red wine was drunk
(on my behalf) and there was a very good turnout.

I want to get some A2 prints of this piece up for sale on my etsy store,
as well as some smaller ones.

I drew the entire thing using pencil,
and then coloured it using photoshop.

Sneak Peek

OOh here's a sneak peek at my new illustration!
I've literally been working on this all day
as the hair and the top have a LOT of detail!

She doesn't have eyes yet,
I decided to leave it till last as they can make or break a drawing!

I've come to a realization that I only like to draw on
moleskine sketchbook paper, as it's so smooth and thick.
The one above is running out of pages and
I'm currently having a hard time parting with my money to buy a new one
as I have another, I just can't get to it.
It is handed in as part of my final major project.
It should be marked soon and I'll be able to get it back...
but until then, I have to draw small
and conserve precious paper!

Pretty Lace

for this illustration I scanned in some antique lace,
that my mother had stashed away,
and used it to create a collar/top.

I did the drawing while at uni waiting for the external examiner
to show up- It's probably the last bit of work I'll ever do there...
Scary!

New website Design!

This was changed a few weeks ago,
but `i'm only just catching up with all the things I've been meaning to do!
My new website design!
I always like a fresh change and I'm very fond of this illustration.
I kept my title font but changed the link font to a more 'Scawly' one.

Line work

Here are two illustrations from my final major project
Today I handed all of my work in!
but uni isn't quite over yet.
I still have a disgusting viva to do.
I HATE speaking infront of people, which is essentially what a viva is.
So wish me luck!

I can't wait to get stuck into drawings again.
It feels like forever since I just drew for the fun of it.
You could say I'm having with-draw-al symptoms...
sorry.
Some new illustrations will be posted soon,
Mark my words!!!

Representing Women

OMG this is the end result of my final major project!
It came today, I used blurb for the actual printing and binding.
I made my own book last year and it looked far too make shift,
so this time around I went with the pros!
Apart from two teeny tiny spelling mistakes and one image being too close to the gutter,
It looks good, like a real, proper, actual book!
I'll create a digital version soon so the world can view it!
Also I've decided I'm going to start working on another book,
as this one has turned out so good,
but this one will be completely me...no tutors opinions of what to put in! nothing!
just me, and the drawings I love to do.
I plan to sell it on my etsy store...so watch this space!

Bambi

This was drawn from an image of Bambi Northwood-Blyth in Oyster magazine.
Not sure if it looks like her completely but I'm still pleased
with how it looks. My favorite part is the hair.
That was inspired by some of the many awesome pics
I came across whilst browsing a blog called: Fuck yeah Bitchin hair
Check it out! It's already making me want to do a serious dye job
on my hair. Teal green thank you very much!

Bags of vanity

This is another piece of illustration form my Final major P.
I'm making a book which will be split up into four different parts.
Each part will show something different about the representation of women.

This is a fashion based piece.
It shows the more superficial side to fashion and how it makes
women see themselves, and others.
The style is very feminine and light, which is a contrast to other
sections of the book

You can't stop birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from making a nest.

You can't stop birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from making a nest.
This is a saying I heard an Amish person say on a T.V. program once.
I think she was talking about lustful thoughts.
I thought it would be a nice phrase to include in the "sins/virtues" part of my FMP.

Roots

Had a bit of a blog re-design today. I'm liking it so far.
I'll be re-designing my web site soon too.
I get bored of things easily.
Any who..this is a new piece which I can hopefully fit into my FMP.
I seem to have two style going on and the tutors all prefer the other one,
but i'm gonna try and get away with both for my final outcome book.
This piece is about the roots of fashion.
This type of plait is coming into style again and it reminds me of
native american girls.
Went a bit Katy Perry with the hair colour (I went to see her, it had to be done)

Roses

Another Piece for Shine.
The original will be for sale which is a little different to this one.
I sliced my thumb open on glass while trying to put it into a frame so I am
a little bit angry with it right now.
Ooww! :(

Shine

At having completely spazzed out at the utter lack of work I got done today
I did this!
It's for "Shine" exhibition which launches this thursday at Sunderland uni!
It's going to be full of artists showcasing and selling their work.
I may exhibit the original of this as opposed to a print.
The event is open to the public, so if anyone is in the area, pop along!
Thursday, April 7, from 6.30pm-9pm in the Design Centre, on the City Campus.
There is a £2 entry fee and welcome drinks.

Crossroads

As a result of my ever changing thoughts on my FMP
I came up with this Klimt inspired illustration,
and I must say I'm rather liking it, so expect more.
Many many more. I've got a book to make of these bad boys!
The emaciated figures I've drawn are to represent, from the seven sins/virtues..
Temperance! However I'm mixing it up, putting a negative slant on a virtue,
Anorexia in this case is the result. The title refers to the decision to either carry on
or stop. One figure looks up distancing herself from the viewer,
while the other looks directly at you, showing a difference in their choices.
ooh deep.

Sketches

More sketches from my final Major Project.
Taking inspiration from Egon Schielle and Klimt.
Possibly my two favourite artists.
I'm looking at making conventional imagery unconventional.
In other words, making people look a bit weird instead of beautiful
