Red lipstick, Animated short

Red lipstick Melissa Bailey Illustration from Melissa Bailey Illustration on Vimeo.

Check it out! My first animation! I created this animated short using after effects and it's great to see my illustrations in motion. I drew all of the artwork separately, including each moving part, which took some time, but I've certainly learned a lot and can't wait to create my next animation.

Mother of Dragons

Here is my latest illustration for my Etsy shop, and it's my favourite! I am absolutely obsessed with Game of Thrones, so it was only a matter of time before I had to draw my favourite character. In fact, I'm not sure why it's taken me so long?
But here she is, Daenerys Targaryen, aka the Mother of dragons, with her you dragon on her shoulder. Each print is finished by hand with gold paint detailing on the dress and metalwork, so each one will be truly unique. Get yours from my Etsy store by clicking HERE

Aspinal of London: St Pancras 22nd October

On, Thursday 22nd October I'll be in the Aspinal store at St Pancras station, London, from 12-6pm.
I will illustrating the customers as with their favourite Aspinal product, giving them their very own illustration to take home! So if you're in the area, and have 5 mins to spare, make sure to come in to get yours!
This will be my second time illustrating in this particular store. They're all great stores and the staff are fab, so it's a real treat.
I'll be using the #myaspinal all day if you want to follow what goes on and take a look at the illustrations.

Aspinal of London: Store events 2015

Over the last few months I've been doing some exciting events for Aspinal of London, becoming the in house illustrator for the day, creating watercolour fashion illustrations for the customers. I've been all around their London stores, including; Covent Garden Canary Wharf, Marylebone, Selfridges and their Flagship on Brook Street, and also to their store in Bluewater, Kent. I absolutely love doing these events, drawing all day, meeting wonderful new people, surrounded by beautiful Aspinal products.

A3In this case, the customer choose their favourite Aspinal product and posed while I sketched them, I then added watercolour and it was done within 5-7 mins. So all of the illustrations you see in this post have been done quickly, in store and in front of the customer.

I've had an incredibly positive response from everybody that I draw, as it adds a lovely element to their shopping experience and gives them something extra to take home with them. I have a few more events in the pipeline, which as ever, I'm very excited for. The events are widely shared on social media, so follow myself and Aspinal of London for updates.

Chanel Haute Couture 2015

Here is a series of illustrations inspired by the Chanel Haute Couture S/S 2015 show.
This show looked amazing, I wish I could have been there to see it first hand, luckily Chanel released the full video on their website. The Catwalk design was particularly inspiring! I loved the way the colours sprang out from the white garden as the models walked on.
These illustrations are of some of my favourite pieces form the collection.

360

Wow, it's been a such long time since my last post!
I've been busy working on various freelance jobs, and also working on my own illustrations and gifs.

Here's my latest illustrated fashion gif.
I got the images from Bleach Salon, London. They create amazing pastel coloured hairstyles which inspired me to colour the background in, in a rainbow of colour!

Bat those lashes

I've just created my first gif animation. I know I know, pretty basic right. But for someone only used to seeing their drawings and illustrations stay static it's rather exciting and new to see them in motion!  Before I decided that I wanted to become an illustrator, I actually wanted to be an animator. So it's a real indulgence to mix the two disciplines. Having never even dabbled in using any animation programs I found this was a good way to start, as I have used photoshop to create this. I just chose an image to draw and decided on trying out making the eyes blink first. (as it looked like the easiest!) I can't wait to apply this technique to other, more complete looking illustrations and see where I can take this!

#5 Red hot chilli pepper

So I'm back form my trip away and getting stuck into my fashion illustrations again (or at least trying to fit it in amongst other work!).
This girl is inspired by a photo from the Sartorialist and this amazing Dolce & Gabanna chilli pepper two piece. I want it! If only I had a spare £1000 lying around! I did manage to get a similar outfit on Etsy from Laundry Day Apparel, which fits like a dream and is perfect for summer!

Paris is always a good idea

Recently I went to Paris with my boyfriend, sister and friends and I couldn't resist stopping a Laduree on Champs Elysees! Even the facade of the building is a treat! I especially loved the art nouveau style metal work that you can see in the second picture.

We were blessed with a couple of days of sunshine, but had to endure some rain. Luckily however, on Bastille day, the weather was glorious and we got to watch a concert at the Eiffel Tower and later watch the fireworks in the evening which were spectacular!

#3 Violet

Another one of my fabulous fashion illustrations! I'm really enjoying working on figurative illustration again. And I love finding/creating all the different looks for my fashion girlies to wear! I got this outfit from Nasty Gal.
Hopefully I'm going to carry on at the pace at which I've been creating these illustrations so far and keep posting them regularly. I've begun to number them as I'm sure I'll run out of creative names for each one soon enough!

Dance the night away...

Another fashion illustration I've created recently! Sporting a glittery skort! Or is it a pair of skorts?? Who knows!
I created her in my usual manner, watercolours and digital (but mainly all watercolours!)

More to come...

Illustrated map of Paris

A brand new print is now available on my Etsy store, my illustrated map of Paris!
I created the illustration using watercolours and digital methods. All of the text is handwritten with pen and ink.

Nothing beats the romantic feeling Paris evokes, even if you've never been there but have always dreamed of doing so! I'm lucky enough to be heading there this summer, I can not wait! So expect some snaps of my trip in the near future. I'll be staying in Monmartre, my favourite area!

Au revoir! xx

Ren: Mother's Day Promotion

A few weeks ago I created an illustration for the skincare company Ren, for their mother's day promotion of their  rose otto bath oil. I  got to paint my favourite things, flowers and beauty products, so I was thrilled to be working on this!

Keep you eyes pealed for some more illustrations I have created for Ren, which I will be able to share with you very soon!

I also do recommend their day and night creams for the V-Cense range if anyone is struggling to find a good face cream to stick with, find it here: http://www.renskincare.com/c/facial-skincare_v-cense

Out and about...

Above are a selection of images from my Instagram account which show some of my recent work that you can find in various magazines.
I regularly get to create maps for Fabulous magazine, which I love doing, as I get to learn while I illustrate! Researching the different places beforehand to see what they look like and the general vibe that I want to portray is important in order to get the best outcome.
I also regularly create illustrations for the "How to…" beauty feature in Top Santé, a monthly women's health beauty and wellbeing magazine. Which include a step by step guide to getting the latest beauty looks.
And also, one of my favourites, Sunday Times Stlye magazine's "Can't live without.." feature, for which I illustrate a different beauty product every week.

I have been very busy of late and will be updating EVERYTHING soon with new work, so keep a look out!
